Evelyn Overby

Evelyn Langley Cahoon Overby passed away on May 4th at home after an extended illness. She was born August 26, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Graham and Lilly Langley Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years RT Overby, sister Betty Fisher Cahoon and a beloved fur baby, Herman.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Ward and her husband Jeff of Battleboro, her two beloved grandchildren Tyler Thomas Ward and Gage Harris Ward, her sister Debbie Wooten Collins {Ertle}, her brother Sonny Wooten {Joyce} and several special nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to say Thank You to all the wonderful caregivers Sandy, Susan, Heather, Carmen, Felicia, Earnestine, Emo Jean, Millie, Estelle and several other caregivers.
Also Thank You to Lisa Davis Erdmann who was there from the beginning and the end, and to the wonderful Gentiva Hospice nurses Janice & Susan.
Evelyn began working for Carolina Telephone in 1959 and retired in 1999. She had several fond memories of her coworkers she worked with.
Upon retirement she spent lots of time keeping her grandchildren. In her eyes her grandchildren could do no wrong and was quick to shut anyone down who tried to contradict her, She also enjoyed traveling, the beach and many trips to Atlantic City.
A visitation with the family will be held Wednesday May 8th from 11am to 1 pm with a funeral service at 1 pm in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev Mark Pridgen officiating.
Entombment will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
