Evelyn Hill Colbert

June 5, 1928 ~ July 6, 2018

ROCKY MOUNT – Evelyn Lucille Hill Colbert, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 6, 2018. Born in Greene County, NC on June 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Hill and Dora Mae Wade Hill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Colbert, Sr.; brothers, Earl Hill, Durwood Hill, and Elmer Hill; sisters, Dorothy Barnes and Zelma Rogers; and great-grandson, John Dornseif.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She will be missed by all who knew her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten.
Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, John Colbert, Jr. and wife, Sheila, of Rocky Mount; and daughters, Becky Joyner and husband, Bobby, of Rocky Mount, Jean Waters and husband, Tommy, of Rocky Mount, and Liz Joyner and husband, William, of Battleboro. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her special friends, Corine Davis, Ronnie Fulford “son-in-love”; her niece, Bunny Pickel; and life long friend, E.U. Daniel for their continued love and support.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Allen Mills officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home of Bobby and Becky Joyner, 1301 McDuffers Road, Rocky Mount.
