Ethel V. Crusenberry went to be with her Lord on August 4, 2014. She was born April 12, 1920 in Greenville. South Carolina to the late Robert D. and Mary C. Vandiford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Crusenberry; son, Alton (Sonny) Crusenberry; step-mother, Tumpsey P. Vandiford; and brother, Robert Vandiford.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her family with a passion only surpassed by her love for God. Ethel worked for 30 years as an office Cashier for Rose’s Stores. She was also a volunteer at Community Hospital. Ethel was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC for many years where she taught the Beginner Sunday School and touched the lives of hundreds of children.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters and son-in-law, Janice C. and Jim Howell, Judy C. and Don Rogers; daughter-in-law, Claudia W. Crusenberry; sister, Dorothy Vandiford. She is also survived by grandchildren, James and Kathryn Crusenberry, Michael Crusenberry, Scott and Amy Rogers, Kelly and Mike Anderson; great-grandchildren, Stephen Crusenberry, Katie Crusenberry, Jessica Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Cara Waddell, Jenna Waddell, and Sophia Anderson; great-great-grandson, Dominic Shapiro.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, NC from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Free Will Baptist Church, 1825 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Walker and Nash General 3rd floor Nursing Staff for their care of Mother. We would also like to say a special thanks to the Staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro for their loving care of our mother.
