WHITAKERS – Esther “Jackie” O’Briant, age 89, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017. Born in Mecklenburg County, NC on June 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Archie Franklin McLean and Esther Bullock McLean. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Curits Day O’Briant.

Jackie worked as a branch manager for People’s Bank and Cummings Credit Union for many years. She will be remembered for her southern cooking and love of gardening. Her most cherished memories were those spent with her family. Jackie was a loving wife, enduring mother, caring grandmother, and friend.

Jackie leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Jane O. Jones of Rocky Mount, NC and Carolyn O. Sapp of Whitakers, NC; her sisters, Annie Kate Stephens of Charlotte, NC and Shirley Saine and husband, Bill, of Charlotte, NC; a granddaughter, Ashton Jones Fisher of Red Oak, NC and her dearly beloved grandson, Richard Curtis Sapp and his wife, Claudia, of Whitakers, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Wendy Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

The family would like to thank Tracey Mayo and Bobby Bryant for their compassion, help, and kindness. A heartfelt appreciation to Sarah Watson and Dr. Wendy Edwards for being dear friends to Jackie and her family.
