Doris G Hix

August 6, 1924 ~ January 1, 2021
Doris G. Hix, 96, of Conover passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021 at Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation. Doris was born August 6, 1924 in Greenfield, Mass. to the late Clifford Golden and Hattie Boyd Golden.
She married Hurl Hix on October 7th, 1950 at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Doris obtained a degree in nursing and enjoyed a brief career in that field before deciding to devote her life to caring for her family which included her husband, two sons, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, taking long walks and service to her community.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hurl Edgar Hix, a brother, James B. Golden and a sister, Irene G. Everett.
Those left to cherish her memory are a very special niece, Peggy Everett Byrd and husband Paul Byrd of Hickory, two sons, Dan Hix of Atlanta and Alan Hix of Miami, a very special daughter-in law, Glenda Hix of Peachtree City and grandchildren Daniel Hix, Walter Hix, Harmony Sage, Cory Hix, Hailey Hix and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was loved and adored by all those who met her. Her wit, charm and sense of humor could bring a smile and warm your heart instantly. One of her favorite sayings that she lived by all of her life was “Never lose your sense of humor. If you lose that, you’ve lost everything”. Doris also lived by a strong Christian faith.
The family would like to thank the staff of Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation where Doris was cared for and loved for nine years. They truly loved her and became “extended family”. They always went above and beyond to care for her.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Hix family.
