Christopher James Driver

christopher driver

ROCKY MOUNT – Christopher James Driver, age 27, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on March 9, 1991, he is the son of Ronnie E. Driver, Jr. and Susan Bass Driver of Rocky Mount. He was preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal grandparents, James Luther and Amelia Bass and Ronnie Sr. and Maggie Driver; and his uncle, James Mitchell Bass.
Christopher, “Chris”, “CJ”, “Senior Officer Driver”, “Batman”, many names for a man with many talents.
Chris was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church where he praised his Lord and Savior in many ways. A man having many talents, he sang in the church choir as well as with the Rocky Mount Chorus. He was never one to meet a stranger and lived knowing that respect for others was the single, easiest responsibility to live by. Chris had that special personality in which those around him would gravitate towards. Whether it was his gifted sense of humor, his ability for practical jokes which would always fill the room with laughter, it could be easily said that Chris was the heartbeat of all those around him. With the persona of “Batman”, as the legendary Batman was his hero, or maybe Chris was Batman’s hero, either way how could anyone ever dispute that.
A 2009 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High, now Rocky Mount High School, Chris played high school football and was also on the wrestling team. It was in fact during his high school years that he met and would eventually marry his wife Lorin Wicker. In February of 2013 he began his career in law enforcement with the Rocky Mount City Police Department, a duty he took seriously every time he wore the uniform. His passion for protecting his community was evident as his demeanor would change the moment he would transition from civilian to public servant. In August of 2017 his commitment to duty was honored by the City as Chris was promoted to Senior Police Officer, certainly a proud moment in his life which was filled with accomplishments.
Outside of law enforcement, Chris was considered a professional gamer amongst his family and friends. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle on any day of the week and dancing with and alongside his wife created many cherished memories. An animal lover at heart, his precious fur babies, Zeus, Xena, and Athena, could always be found by his side. Having the ability to put a smile on anyone’s face, or force one to burst in uncontrollable laughter, Chris’s famous quotes will always remind us that no matter what the situation, be it time to get to work or as he would put it, “work and slave”, or his simple acknowledgment, “dilly, dilly”, you could always count on Chris and his “I got you.”
Along with his parents, Chris leaves behind to cherish his memory, his high school sweetheart and wife, Lorin Wicker Driver; brother, Matthew Driver of Rocky Mount; and sister, Allison Driver Raynor and her husband, Jason, of Tarboro. He will also be remembered by his father and mother-in-law, Dean and Debra Wicker; his three aunts, Nancy B. Jones, Patsy Sutton and Tommie Driver; special cousin, Heather Jones; and a host of distant cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Rocky Mount High School, 1400 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Rev. Mike Edwards and Rev. David McBryar officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Edgemont Baptist Church, 1622 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
