Virginia Beach, VA – Cheryl Leigh Erhard Maupin, age 80, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025.  Born in Norfolk, VA on September 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Harold Omar Erhard and Mildred Wester Lanier Erhard.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Armistead Jones Maupin; and her sister, Sue Erhard Midgett.

Having a love for art, Cheryl was a long-time volunteer and assistant manager with the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.  Additionally, she loved traveling and together with her husband, Armistead, traveled the globe, even visiting the realm of the Artic Circle.  Cheryl was blessed to have her missionary angels in her life, especially her caretaker, Pigeon, who prayed for her and with her, and loved and cared for her as only an angel from God could.  A loving sister, mom, wife, and generous friend, Cheryl will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Cheryl is survived by her children, James “Jim” Powell and Michael Powell (Anne); several grandchildren; her great-grandson, Wyatt Powell; her sister, Nancy Erhard Cole; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Cheryl’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
