Beverly Walker Spain, 76 of Rocky Mount passed away Thursday, February 15th. Beverly grew
up with two sisters and one brother. She enjoyed going on trips with them as well as her mother
and father. She married her husband Jimmy in 1965 and together they created a life full of love
with their two daughters.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters- Melissa Goff (Allen) and Jamie, her sister Jackie
Turner (Ray), and her four grandchildren- Cody, Bryson (Justin), Laney (Nate), and Collin, her
aunt Mamie Ester Weaver; niece, Wendy Shumaker (Dave), nephews Donny Pridgen (Lisa),
and Chad Pridgen (Cinde), several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends are left to
cherish her memory as well as her special neighbors of many years, Kim and Ken. Lastly,
Beverly is survived by her special great-grandsons who were the light of her life- Wadelee and
Walker who she so lovingly referred to as Squirt and Smiley.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her parents Christine Winstead Walker and
Linwood (LD) Walker, her brother Wayne Walker and her sister Cathy Pridgen as well as her
niece Kristy Stonestreet.
Beverly enjoyed spending time with her family, going out to eat (to Pups and Rustic Roots
specifically), reading a good book, watching the Young and the Restless, and taking a long nap
in her beloved recliner. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved to talk about them with
anyone she met… However, no one compared to “Squirt” and “Smiley.” Shopping at Belk with
her grandchildren (specifically Laney!) was Beverly’s very favorite thing to do. Two days before
she passed away, Beverly was fortunate enough to do just that- shop one last time at Belk with
Laney and her sister Jackie.
Beverly’s family is thankful for the wonderful care she received from nurses and physicians
since her cancer diagnosis in November. They also would like to thank her sister Jackie and
brother-in-law Ray for opening their home to her and for being Beverly’s full time caregivers the
last several months. Beverly’s family would like to encourage everyone to donate blood as they
are able. Blood transfusions prolonged Beverly’s life and she was always grateful for that.
