Betty G House

ROCKY MOUNT – Betty Lee Gray House, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Born in Durham County, NC on November 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Alton Alter Gray and Minnie Lee Green Gray. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Everette Lane House; her daughter, Cheryl Dawn House; and her sisters, Shirley Gray Poole and Janice Carol Gray.

Betty graduated from Durham High School and her senior quote was “she doth good to all of her friends”. She had an early career in banking and briefly worked as an elementary school secretary. Her true vocation was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother where she was a blessing and example to her family of love and devotion. Betty was a faithful member of Englewood United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities over the years.

She leaves behind a sister, Sandra Louise Gray and daughters Deborah House High and husband Stephen and Teresa House Best. She also leaves behind 5 beloved grandchildren: Kristen Best Minshew and husband, Mark; Lindsay High Stanislaw and husband, Dan; Emily Best Szymanski and husband, Matthew; Jamison High Langley and husband, Logan; and Samuel Creech High. Great-grandchildren were her joy and included Worth and Noah Minshew, Everette and Alexander Stanislaw, Barrett Szymanski, and Emma, Lilliana and Waylon Langley. Betty also leaves behind cherished neighbors, Bryan and Jenny Thompson.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S Circle Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Nathan Wittman officiating. A private burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at Englewood United Methodist Church.
