Ashley V. Raper

ROCKY MOUNT – Ashley Valton Raper, known as A.V. to his relatives and friends, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Ezra and Jane Raper. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, sidekick and companion, Doris Pearce Raper; his sister, Irene Bell; and his brothers, James Ray Raper and Alton Raper.

A.V. graduated from West Edgecombe School in 1945. He served the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship Wisconsin during the Korean War. A.V. received many awards including the Combat Action Ribbon. He received an Honorable Discharge as a Chief Petty officer in 1960. A.V. was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Life Member of the VFW, DAV and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
