Artemus R Johnson

ROCKY MOUNT – Artemus “Art” Johnson, age 82, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022. Born in Johnston County, NC on November 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Ransom Johnson and Ruby Sallie McCabe Johnson and his Momma, Stella Johnson.

Art retired after many dedicated years as a contractor. Art was a strong Christian man and he was a longtime member of Harvest Baptist Church. Over the years, he served as a Deacon as well as other church capacities. Art loved his family and his church family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family.

Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gretchen Marie Rackley Johnson; his son, Artemus “Ransom” Johnson, Jr. and wife, Heather; his daughters, Scarlett Johnson Pittman and husband, Gregg, and Faith Johnson; his grandchildren, Hannah Reece, Abigail Adcox, Brooke Johnson, and Sara Johnson; his sister, Melinda Johnson Williamson; and his bonus child “adopted son”, Danny Ray Woodruff.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Art’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Harvest Baptist Church, 2325 Old Mill Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Gary Wood officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 11:45 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Harvest Baptist Church.
