Aaron Canaan Joyner

Aaron Canaan Joyner, 92 passed away Friday, June 12, 2015.
He was born in Nash County, April 27, 1923 to the late Lonnie F. and Ollie Joyner.
Aaron was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Charter Member of West Mount Fire Department and Ruritan Club. He was also a member of the VFW and the Ex POW organization. Aaron served in WWII and received two Bronze Stars and a a Purple Heart. He was also the recipient of the Governors Award of Excellence presented by Governor Hunt. Aaron was retired from Seaboard Coastline railroad and was the President of the local railroad unions. In addition to his parents Aaron was preceded in death by brothers, George, Atlas, Gorham, and Lee Joyner and a sister Eunice Robbins.
He is survived by his wife Willa Mae Joyner; son, Cannie Ray Joyner (Delores); daughters, Betty J. Lee, Peggy Blackwell (Phillip); brothers, Clarence and Warnell Joyner; sisters, Marjorie Bone, Genevieve Pridgen; grandchildren, Jennifer D. Joyner ( Keith Tingley), Laura Mead (David), Joshua Lee (Nicole) and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 1:30 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 1460 Bethlehem Rd.
