William Franklin Lineberger Obituary

William Franklin Lineberger (Frank), 93, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2026 surrounded by family.

Born November 1, 1932, he was the son of William Mack Lineberger and Lola Virginia Tate Lineberger. William will be remembered for his deep love of family, steadfast faith, and compassionate care for others.

Frank proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany for three years in Communications and Intelligence. Following his military service, he earned a degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and later continued his education at the London School of Business.

His professional career included working with Imperial Tobacco Company in Durham and Wilson, North Carolina; Parker Tobacco Company in Maysville, Kentucky; Thorpe and Rick’s Tobacco Company in Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and International Paper.

A devoted man of faith, Frank was active in church choirs and church leadership roles throughout his life. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wilson, NC; Trinity United Methodist Church in Maysville, KY; Englewood Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount, NC; and his last church home was The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville, NC. At The Memorial Baptist, he helped operate the church Food Pantry for many years. He also spent over two thousand hours volunteering for ECU Health Medical Center, formally Vidant Medical Center. He was a charitable, humble, and compassionate person who found meaning in serving others.

He was preceded in death by his wonderful wives, Catherine Bradshaw Lineberger and Helen Hahn Lineberger.

He is survived by his sister, Hazel Lineberger Cross of Tamarac, Florida; his daughter, Lisa Crawley Smith and her husband, David, of Greenville, North Carolina; his son, William Bradley Lineberger and his wife, Jennifer, of Cary, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Gary Lineberger, CJ Lineberger, Susan Lineberger, Franklin Lineberger, Sydney Crawley Pilgrim and her husband, Taylor, Mary Ellen Crawley and her wife, Annie, Caroline Crawley, and Virginia Crawley; and his great-grandchildren, Max Pilgrim, Mason Pilgrim, Nora Pilgrim, and Sam Pilgrim.

Known as “Poppy,” he was deeply loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in each of them.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for their professionalism, warmth, and support during Frank’s end-of-life journey. Special thanks are also extended to the SilverCare team—Mary Beth, Kathleen, Bonnie, Pat, and Martyn—for the exceptional care and kindness they gave to Frank and his family. Their presence made a difficult journey gentler for all who loved him.

A service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Memorial Baptist Church, Greenville, North Carolina. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. A private family graveside service will be held in Rocky Mount, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Memorial Baptist Church Food Pantry, 1510 SE Greenville Blvd., Greenville, NC 27858; or a charity of your choice.

Frank will always be remembered for the many lives he touched.
