Mrs. Minnie Baker Billups

ROCKY MOUNT – Minnie Baker Billups, age 83, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on March 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Luther Baker and Mattie Pridgen Baker.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas “Tom” Wayne Billups; and her brothers, Lodis “Albert” Baker (Marie), Remus Randolph “Shine” Baker (Maggie Lee), Doc Baker (Kathleen), and Jimmy Baker (Inez).

Minnie loved her family and friends and would do what she could to help them.  In her younger years, she worked in Children’s Church and was a GA Leader for several years, and wanted to treat people with love and respect.  Minnie had widow ladies she would call and check on most every day.  Her caring was sometimes confused for worrying.  She was a good wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a Medical Purchasing Agent for 20 years and always wanted to help someone that couldn’t help themselves.  Minnie was kind to people she came in contact with.  One of her pleasures was to try and make people laugh, she had a lot of fun doing that.  In her later years, she still tried to check on people even if she didn’t feel well herself.  Minnie loved her friends and wanted them to be happy and well.  She will be missed by many.

Minnie leaves behind, her son, Thomas “Ray” Billups and wife, Meg; her granddaughters, Kaila Elizabeth Billups and Kylie Grace Billups Powell and husband, Justin; and her many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Minnie’s life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Mike Edwards officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 4:30 PM.

A Committal Service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.  Entombment will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Minnie’s memory to Edgemont Baptist Church, PO Box 7293, Rocky Mount, NC  27803.
