Joan May (Lull) Patterson was born on October 4, 1942, in Kingston, New York.
She was 83 years old. Joan graduated from White Plains High School and attended Nyack Missionary College in Nyack, New York, where she met and married the love of her life, John Patterson. Joan passed from this earth into the arms of Jesus on July 26, 2026
Joan has been a member of Peniel Baptist Church in Palatka since 2019 and was a former member of Crossroads Church in Rocky Mount, NC, where she taught the Junior Girls Sunday School Class and served as a teacher and store clerk for the AWANA program. Joan enjoyed serving in children’s ministries, such as VBS, and singing in church choirs throughout her life. She was also active in the Rocky Mount Women’s Resource Center. Joan loved reading and working with crafts of all kinds, including sewing, knitting, creating photo albums, and making greeting cards with her vast rubber stamp collection.
Joan is survived by her husband of 64 years, Warren John Patterson, as well as her son, Timothy Patterson (Renée) of Rocky Mount, NC; daughter Ellen Evans (Bill) of Palatka, FL; grandchildren Michelle Evans Harris (Jacob), Megan Evans, James Evans, Abby Patterson Plyer (Drew), Tyson Patterson, and Kylie Patterson; great-granddaughters Ellana and Thalia Harris; brother, David Lull (Karen) of Claremont, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Lull; father, John Lull; sister, Shirley Lull; brother, Arthur Lull; sister-in-law, Virginia Lull; and son, David Mathew Patterson.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Peniel Baptist Church, Palatka, Florida, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 4:00 pm, with a time of visitation beginning at 3:30 pm. Interment will be at Rocky Mount Memorial Gardens in Rocky Mount, NC. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Peniel Baptist Academy Gymnasium Fund (110 Peniel Church Road, Palatka, FL 32177).
