With his wife and children by his side at his home, Leon Rex Bissette stepped into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus, Thursday evening, June 4, 2026 at the age of 90 years.

Leon was born in Nash County during the Great Depression on February 15, 1936, the first of two sons of Elmer Rex and Effie Davis Bissette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chester Bissette and brothers-in-law, Tandy Fitts and Bill Fitts.

Following graduation from Coopers High School, Leon proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. His professional career took him from forestry to management at Sherwin Williams. He later became co-owner of Wilson Paint & Wallpaper, partnering with R.S. Harrison for many years until he retired in 2006 to enjoy family life, especially with his grandchildren.

Leon was a simple, hardworking man who was happiest when he was gardening on the family land. He instilled his work ethic, his kindness and his Godly character to his children and grandchildren, leaving a wonderful legacy to be followed.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Sadie Bissette; children, Rex Bissette (Denise) of Rocky Mount, LeighAnn Viverette (Wade) of Emerald Isle; and Greg Bissette of Rocky Mount. He was a beloved “Pa” to his grandchildren, Megan Luper (Steven) of Nashville, Amber Fisher (Seth) and Emily Fernandez (Andres), both of Jacksonville, Florida; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Lillie & Karlie Luper and Sage & Lottie Fisher. He will also be long remembered by his sister-in-law, Julia Bissette, as well as several nephews, nieces, family friends and other extended relatives.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Englewood Presbyterian Church, 100 Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, North Carolina with Dr. Robert Westlund officiating.
