Billie Hammond Rowe, age 73, of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, with her sons by her side. Billie was born on July 25, 1952, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late William Thomas “Bill” Hammond and Grace Reges Hammond. The youngest of four sisters, she shared a close bond with Lynda, Jenny, and Judy. Her early childhood summers were spent on Topsail Island, where she made cherished memories with family and friends — long, carefree days she often reminisced about throughout her life. Later, Lake Gaston, along the North Carolina–Virginia line, became a favorite family gathering place, creating equally joyful and memorable times.

Billie graduated from Rocky Mount High School, Class of 1970, and attended Elon College for two years. Though she enjoyed her studies, her heart often pulled her home — especially for dates with her high school sweetheart, Andy Rowe.

Billie and Andy were married in 1974. Their story began years earlier, riding dirt bikes in a field between their parents’ homes, a beginning that reflected Billie’s adventurous spirit. She loved the outdoors and embraced life fully — hunting, fishing, water skiing, and motorcycle riding — and was known to outshoot just about everyone at a game of pool. Just as easily as she could pull on camouflage, Billie could dress in heels and a beautiful dress for a night on the town.

The greatest joy of Billie’s life was becoming a mother to her two sons. Together, Billie and Andy raised their boys to love the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. She was, in every way, a devoted and loving “boy mom,” proud beyond words of the men they became.

Billie is survived by her sons, Jonathan Rowe and Matthew Rowe, both of Wilkesboro; and her beloved grandson, Fischer Clayton Rowe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Rowe; her parents, Grace and Bill Hammond; and her sisters, Lynda Knouse, Jenny Simpson, and Judy Shell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association. Miller Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.millerfuneralservice.com

Billie will be remembered for her warmth, adventurous nature, and deep love for her family — a life lived fully and a spirit that will be dearly missed.—
