His journey began in Nash County on September 2,1944, son of Romey R. and Stella Louise Keene Langley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Annette Williams.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Starr Pridgen Langley; daughter, Melissa Langley (Robbie Wilson); sisters, Bonita Langley Pelt (Curtis) and Janelle Ezzell (Kenneth); brother, Stanley Langley (Sylvia); grandchildren, Jordan Louis Taylor (Brittany) and Kyle Langley Taylor (Jordan), all of Rocky Mount; and great-grandchildren, Langley Taylor, Hudson Taylor, Bodie Taylor, and Saylor Taylor.
He will also be missed by special great-niece and nephew, Stella Rose Smith and Everson Smith; aunt, Faye Starling of Tarboro; brother-in-law, Reverend Mark Pridgen (Linda); mother-in-law, Leona Pridgen of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Sherry Dawn Pridgen of Nashville; and special friend and caregiver, Cathy Finch of Rocky Mount; along with many family friends and other extended relatives.
Romey was a committed family man, embodying the roles of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His heart was full whenever he was surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pa.” Romey was also a talented farmer, tirelessly working the land from sunup to sundown, tending his crops with the help of his reliable Farmall tractor. He found deep satisfaction in working with his hands, taking pride in the fruits of his hard work and the ability to provide for his loved ones. Romey created a legacy of hard work, dedication and family values that will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
