Mrs. Judi Howell Cockrell

Rocky Mount – Judi Howell Cockrell, age 78, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 3, 2025.  Born in Nash County, NC on March 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James “Jack” Edward Howell, Sr. and Myrtle West Howell.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Paul Cockrell, and her brothers, Micheal Ray Howell and James “Buddy” Edward Howell, Jr.

Judi had a fulfilling career in education support and mortgage banking, where she formed lifelong friendships. She found joy in tending to her yard, reading, and spending precious time with her granddaughters.

Judi is survived by her daughter, Michelle Cockrell Graybeal (David) of Wilson, NC; her granddaughters, Kamryn and Sydney Graybeal; her sister, Jackie Howell Wall; and her sister-in-law, Janice Crusenberry Howell.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Judi’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Gene Sizemore officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
