Marvin Ray Taylor, age 81, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born in Edgecombe County on July 3, 1944 to George W. and Dora Dew Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Baker Taylor; brother, Pete Taylor; sisters, Lois Turner and Jean Lewis and his lifelong friend who Marvin referred to as “his buddy”, Joan Woodard.

After working for the railroad for over twenty years, Marvin started a painting business called “Absolute Paradise Painting”. He had an eye for detail and loved being in charge and making decisions that resulted in a successful business and many satisfied and loyal customers.

When Marvin retired from the painting business, he was always busy helping his family and friends. His advice, stories, smile, and laughter will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Ray Taylor and wife, Renee` of Elm City; daughters, Lorie Styles and husband, Anthony of Rocky Mount, Tammy Turner and husband, Benji of Nashville; grandchildren, Jessica Radford and husband, Curtis, Tyler Taylor, Antonio Styles, Fabien Styles, Niya Styles, AJ Styles, Devin Davenport and great-granddaughters, Oliva Crawford and Elayna Styles.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Davis-Little Funerals, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4544 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
