Dr. Theodore Edward Wilson

March 27, 1951 ~ January 5, 2019
Dr. Theodore Edward Wilson was born March 27, 1951 in Buffalo, NY to Harry Andrew and Olivia Coates Wilson (both deceased). As a child, Ted found joy in sports, music, and his Gilbert Chemistry Set. His love for science, math, and sports carried him to Hutchinson Technical High School and gained him entrance into Hampton Institute (now University), Virginia where he excelled in academics and was a member of the varsity football team. While completing his Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Ted was selected for a cooperative work program with the Eastman Kodak Company. After graduating from SUNY – Buffalo in 1973, he began a full time position as a Supervisory Analytical Chemist and remained at Kodak in Rochester, NY until his retirement and entrance into Medical School in 1987. It was at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo (now University of Toledo College of Medicine) Ted met fellow student Michelle Nicholson who would become his wife in April of 1990.
But Ted was not “all math and science.” The depth of his love for all things creative provoked Ted constantly. By the time he built his first recording studio in Rochester, NY he was singing and performing with lifelong friends in the group “The New Yorkers.” Ted would go on to create and manage the “Pentecostalairres” and “Masterpieces of God.” The record label incorporated by he and wife Michelle – Masterpiece Christian Records – would release Stellar and Dove nominated projects and Ted would have over 50 songs in his BMI Songwriting and Publishing Repertoire. He would also produce stage plays, animated and live-action children’s videos, and two movies.
Ted Wilson devoted his entire career to serving others. He spent decades providing specialized care to patients, including Persons Living With HIV. Undeserved populations were a critically important part of his professional ministry, serving thousands of patients via community centers who otherwise had no access to healthcare. His passion to provide the best care to the underserved and his creativity to find new innovative ways to deliver quality care led him to establish Bright Star, Inc. a healthcare technology company providing leading edge solutions to reach rural and indigent populations. Ted would later develop PC Assist, an Electronic Medical Record software application that would support several doctor offices, Federally Qualified Health clinics and was piloted by Kaiser Permanente. He was a highly-respected advisor and mentor to other scientists, health care professionals, and hospitals at-large, always eager to help others benefit from his robust medical knowledge and experience. This included an over 10 year partnership as a Precepting Physician for medical students at UNC Chapel Hill and East Carolina University.
More than anything, Ted loved God. He always attributed his success to God’s grace and for God’s glory. Initially baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Buffalo, NY he made a decision to renew his commitment to Christ and was immersed during Holy Convocation at Grace Tabernacle COGIC Church on August 8, 1976. Deacon Wilson loved teaching, his knowledge of scripture was prolific, and he was a member of the Gideons International, conducting prison ministry for over a decade.
Dr. Theodore (Ted) Wilson, 67, passed away on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at his home in Fayetteville, NC.
