George Maylard Waters

George Maynard Waters passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC, the son of the late Joe H. Waters and Eleanor Winters Waters. He was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and attended Campbell University. George served in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Baumholder, Germany.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce W. Waters, his son Alan G. Waters and wife Chrissy, granddaughter Abigail Waters, grandson Dylan Waters of Garner, NC, his brother Rowland Waters and wife Kim of Piney Flats, TN, brother-in-law David Winstead and wife Norma of Nashville, NC, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

George retired after 29 years of service from Insurance Services of NC. He enjoyed working around the house, doing many different projects. He also enjoyed building model railroad stations and model airplanes. George was a member of St. Mark’s UMC for 50 years, serving in multiple capacities.

A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, July 9, 2024, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at St. Marks UMC, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Graveside service will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
