Jesse Earl Underhill, the son of the late William “Chet” Underhill and Annie Mae Bunn Underhill, was born on July 21, 1949 in Edgecombe County. He departed this earthly life on Friday, July 15, 2022 at UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, NC.
Jesse was educated in the Edgecombe County Public schools and graduated from Phillips High School in Battleboro, NC. After graduation, Jesse entered the workforce. He worked several jobs throughout the years. He retired from CDC in Whitakers, NC after 10 years of service.
Jesse was reared in a Christian home. Having a need for a savior, he accepted Christ and united with the Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Whitakers, NC. In 1998, Jesse shifted this membership to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
He was proceeded in death by two brothers, James Thomas Underhill, and Larry Lyons, three sisters, Jennie Pearl Graham, Alma Dean Underhill, and Carolyn Underhill.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 32 years Barbara McCann Underhill, two sons, Erik (Dana) Roberts of Atlanta, GA and Arthur Parker of the home; four grandchildren, Kailah (Ben) Rogers, Alana Grant, Sarai Roberts and Kingston Roberts; three brothers, William (Hazel) Bunn, Demaryland Lyons, and Columbus (Sharon) Lyons; three sisters Brenda Underhill, Carol Jean Lyons and Barbara Ann Lyons; three brother in laws, Louis (JoAnn) McCann, James (Emma) McCann and William (Mary) McCann; 4 sister in laws, Florence Underhill, Angela Lyons, Inez (George) Parker, and Joyce (Bryan) Tyson; one uncle Curtis Lee Battle; one aunt Gladys Moss and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mr. Underhill on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 23, 2022 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church located at 305 Old Halifax Rd in Rocky Mount, North Carolina beginning at 11:00 am. The Interment will take place immediately after the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, NC.
