Norman Wells Tripp, age 75, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Born in Lenoir County, NC on August 15, 1940, he was the son of the late James Henry Tripp, Sr. and Emily Catherine Brown Tripp and for the last 50 years, he resided in Rocky Mount. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James “Jay” Henry Tripp, Jr.

Norman served in the United States Army National Guard for 22 years and served during Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991. He went on to work for UPS in 1968 and continued until his retirement after over 32 years in 2000. A man of great faith, he was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he also took part in the Men’s Bible Study Fellowship, sanctuary choir, and was a member of the inspirational singers. He also had a prison ministry and helped out with Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed rhythm and blues music, 50’s Doo-Wop, and loved shagging. Norman and his wife, Frances, were inducted into the Virginia Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Myrtle Beach Hall of Fame for shagging. Norman was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Norman leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years and dance partner, Frances M. Tripp; daughter, Anissa Adcock and husband, Chuck, of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Abigail Rene’; his brother, Dalton Tripp of Kinston; his sisters, Barbara Tripp Johnson and husband, David, of Grifton; Susan Tripp Jones and husband, Douglas, of Kinston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

The family would like to say thank you for all the prayers, cards, and visits; and a special thank you to all the loving and caring staff at Nash Heart Center.
