Susan D Tippette

August 30, 1948 ~ August 20, 2024

RED OAK – Susan Deloris Tippette, age 75, went home to be with her Savior the morning of Tuesday, August 20, 2024, holding the hand of her best friend in marriage of 56 years, Jake “Lucky” Tippette. Born in Halifax County, NC on August 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Brown and Dorothy Rae Taylor Brown.

Susan was raised on her family’s farm in Halifax County. The family farm was God’s great plan to provide her a close proximity to two great loves of her life – caring for animals and the opportunity to meet Jake Tippette. She married Jake, October 6, 1967, and together they raised their family in Red Oak. Susan was a loving mother and wife, devoted to caring for her family. Susan was incredibly creative; and was a crafter and artist with numerous talents. She created many beautiful paintings and crafts, many of which hang in her home and her children’s homes today. A gifted home maker and cook, supper time was family time around her kitchen table. As her family aged, Susan was able to devote more time to improving and learning, and in 1995 she completed her education and training at Edgecombe Community College, becoming a Registered Nurse. As mentioned, caring for animals came natural to Susan and she had quite an assortment of pets throughout her life. As a teenager she had a prized pet rooster she named Bitty Baby. Her favorite furry companion was also her last, her beloved Pomeranian, Oliver – by her side for 16 years. Susan’s family grew as her children married and had families of their own. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren. Most important to Susan was her faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A devoted Christian, she made sure to pass her faith to her children. Diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in 2019, her faith and her family sustained her. Susan’s strength during treatment was nothing short of miraculous. She was given the gift and blessing of a long goodbye. She became emotionally and spiritually her strongest through her battle with cancer. Susan was loved, gave love, and will be missed by her family and friends.

Susan is survived by her husband, Jake; her daughter, Shannon Tippette Newcomb (Lee); her son, Jake “Jay” Tippette (Patrice); her granddaughter, Mattie Tippette; her step-grandson, Thomas Charles Newcomb; her step-granddaughter, Samantha Newcomb; and her sister, Ruth Grant.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Dan Hanshew officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
