Lillian Marie Thompson Strange

ROCKY MOUNT – Lillian Marie Thompson “Granchie” Strange, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on September 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Thompson and Mamie Gladys Whitfield Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse C. Strange; her son, Steven David “Steve” Strange; her daughter, Rosemarie Ferris; and her sisters, Margaret Groome and Alice Leonard.

Lillian was very active in her community in her younger years. In her later years, as the matriarch of her family she centered her life around them. A loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and dear friend, Lillian loved everyone in her life dearly and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Lillian is survived by her son, Michael Strange and partner, Shelia, of Nashville; her daughter, Darlene Battaile and husband, Lawrence, of Kill Devil Hills; her grandchildren, Amy Bertagnolli, Calvin Strange, Andrew Nguyen, Lisa Woolard, Christopher Etling, Robin Joyner, Justin Strange, Cory Strange, Renee Strange, Lauren Battaile, Lance Strange, Jesse Strange, and Benjamin Battaile; her numerous great-grandchildren; her two great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Lillian’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
