Obituary for Matthew Douglas Starr
Wilmington – Matthew Douglas Starr, age 43, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Born in Tarboro, NC on January 21, 1973, he was the son of W. Douglas Starr and the late Linda Lauder Starr.

An intellectual by nature, Matt was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Rocky Mount Academy and further went to graduate from NC State University, College of Design. His love for the arts would later take him to Winter Park, Florida where he would graduate Valedictorian of his class from Full Sail University Film School. His enjoyment of the arts and ability to share his passion with others would carry him throughout both his professional and personal life. In all aspects of the lives he touched, Matt was well known for his captivating personality and ability to bring laughter to those around him. During his tenure in the restaurant business, it was no secret that his talent for being a gourmet chef and his commanding presence inside any kitchen was one that he favored. Further, his reputation for being a film enthusiast would always draw him into conversations regarding upcoming films and productions. His love for others was evidenced by his “servant’s heart,” taking every opportunity to minister to those in need. His impact knew no barriers. From an orphanage in Peru to friends and family spanning the globe, he did what Matt did best by helping those in his life in any way he could. This would lead him to owning his own Concierge Service and becoming a personal assistant to many families around the Wilmington area. A loving son, cherished brother, friend to more than one can imagine, Matt Starr will forever be remembered and always be missed.

Matt leaves behind to cherish his memory, his father, W. Douglas Starr and his wife, Pam, of Rocky Mount; sister, Rachel Truslow Starr of Atlanta, GA; step-siblings Meredith Switzer and her husband, Jeff, of Weaverville, Jessica Page and her husband, Dr. Chris Weed, of Durham, and Graham Page and his wife, Sonia, of Alameda, CA.
