Evelyn Elizabeth Lauer Spahn

Evelyn Elizabeth Lauer Spahn passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2007 in Rocky Mount at the age of 86. Born in Portsmouth, VA on March 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Rose Seybold Lauer.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Clinton Edward Spahn, a resident of The Albemarle in Tarboro. She is also survived by daughter and son-in-law Eileen Spahn Williams and Don Williams of Rocky Mount, NC and by daughter and son-in-law Deborah Spahn Montgomery Cove and Andrew Cove of Ithaca, NY. She is also survived by her sister Edna Gladys Lauer Jenkins of Southern Shores.
Surviving grandchildren are Clinton C. Williams and his wife Allison of Nashville, G.E. Reeves Williams and his wife Margarette of Clayton, Gwyneth M. Diemond and her husband Chris, Annan M. Montgomery and Brennan A. Montgomery, all of Ithaca, NY. Three great-granddaughters also survive, Bailey G. Williams and Bethany C. Williams of Nashville and Avery Elizabeth Williams of Clayton.
Evelyn Spahn was a homemaker and involved in many civic and charitable organizations. She was active the the Girl Scouts, served as member of the Outer Banks Women’s Club and she was a member and president of the Brentwood Garden Club and the Cradock Women’s Club in Portsmouth,
VA..
She was also a lifelong Lutheran and belonged to First Lutheran Church in Portsmouth, Grace Lutheran in Nags Head and Trinity Lutheran in Rocky Mount.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, 601 Children Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507 or to the Memorial Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church, 433 S. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30pm on Sunday at the Lutheran Church in Rocky Mount,. A memorial service will begin at 3:30 at the Lutheran Church with Pastor Alice Johnson Curl officiating.
