William Henry “Bill” Sharman, 79, a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and Black and Decker plant manager, passed away Friday, Spt. 22, 2006.
A native of upstate New York, he was the third of 11 children of Samuel J. Sharman Sr. and Lucille Schumaker Sharman.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Mabe of Fayeteville; daughter, Georgetta of Sanford, Fla.; sons, Harold Bunnells and his wife, Rose, of Fayetteville, Mike Bunnells and his wife, Doris of Fayeteville and Ronnie and his wife, Kathy, of Banner Elk. Other survivors include three sisters, Lucille Fisher of North East, Pa., Jean Howard of Perry, N.Y., and Mary Lange of Hamburg, N.Y.; three brothers, Robert Sharman of Perry, N.Y., Lewis Sharman of Warsaw, N.Y., and Richard Sharman of Taona, Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Sharman was a 20 year veteran of the Air Force who served in Europe and also did a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was stationed at Pope AFB just before retiring from active duty as a Master Sergeant in 1967. After leaving the service, he went to work with Black and Decker in Fayetteville. He was later transferred to the Tarboro factory, where he was plant manager for many years. He lived in Rocky Mount for some 28 years before returning to the the Fayetteville area in 1999. He also enjoyed woodworking and was known for making small animal figures.
Graveside services with an Air Force honor guard were held Tuesday at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, with the Rev. Doris Lee of Canaan Full Gospel Holiness Church in Lumberton officiating. Pallbearers were Harold Bunnells, Jon Bunnells, Michael Dehorse, William Westbrook and Keith Westbrook.
Reeve Funeral Home of Hope Mills is in charge of arrangements.
