Marshall W. Pridgen, age 90, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Born in the Coopers Community on September 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Stephen H. Pridgen and Hazel D. Pridgen. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Virginia Blankenship; brothers William O. Pridgen, Sr. and Delano D. Pridgen; and his granddaughter, Ashley Dawn Pridgen.
As a United States Army veteran, Marshall served overseas during the Korean War. Along with his wife, Mary, together they operated side by side Pridgen’s Service Center in Enfield off of I-95 for many years before he retired. In addition, Marshall also retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 14 years of dedicated service.
Marshall leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 65 years, Mary Frances Baines Pridgen; and sons, Marshall W. “Woody” Pridgen, Jr. and his wife, Kaye, of Rocky Mount, H. Stephen “Steve” Pridgen of McDonough, GA, Julian S. “Scottie” Pridgen of Rocky Mount, Samuel G. “Sammy” Pridgen and his wife, Brigette, of Rocky Mount, and Michael B. “Mike” Pridgen of Sharpsburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brad, Julian, Samuel, Ashley, Justin, Rhiannon, and Miranda; great-grandchildren, Sidney, Laney, Landon, Tanner, Maci, Addison, Callie, Brooklyn, and Easton; several nieces and nephews; and very special friend, Marlowe Spann.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Reuben Batchelor officiating. Interment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
