George Thomas Poland

George Thomas Poland, 62, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 25, 2012. He was born May 16, 1930 in Nash County to the late Willie R. Sr. and Lillie Bachlor Poland. George proudly served in the US Army. He is a member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church and member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners Club. He retired from CSX Railroad after 38 years of service. George is preceded in death by three brothers, Victor, Willie Jr., and Billy Poland.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years Maerean Bledsoe Poland, three daughters; Ann Mangis and husband David, Georgia Wilson and husband Charles, Donna Wilson and husband Joseph, one brother Cuther Poland, one sister Virginia Moss, four grandchildren; Michael Boone, Andrew Mangis, Kimberly Lloyd and husband Pete, and Alyson Girouard and husband Mike; four great-grandchildren, Michaela Boone, Maddie Girouard, Ava Lloyd, and Mary Kate Girouard, and niece Gail Connie and husband Elbert, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, July 27, 2012 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with the Pastor Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
