Joseph W. Pittman
September 1, 1912 ~ February 27, 1952
Joseph William Pittman, 41, of Rocky Mount, Route 1, died in a local hospital Wednesday night following an illness of six years, and a serious illness of three weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon by the Rev. Wiley Vick. Holiness minister, Burial will be in the Oak Level church cemetary.
He was born Sept. 1, 1910, son of the late R. L. Pittman and Lena Armstrong Pittman of the Oak Level Community in Nash County.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bertha Bone Pittman; four sons, Tommie, Joe, Lindberg, and Jerry, all of the home; five daughters, Kathaleen, Delilah, Betty Jean and Crystal Hope, all of the home; and Mrs. Maggie Lee Baker, of Nashville, Rt. 3; one brother, R. L. Pittman, Jr., of Rocky Mount, Rt. 1; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Winstead of Rocky Mount, Rt. 1 and Mrs. Virginia Ivory of Emporia, Va., and his stepmother, Mrs. Savannah Winstead Pittman of Rocky Mount, Rt. 1; two stepbrothers, Lonnie Winstead of Raleigh, and Willie Winstead of Rocky Mount, Route. 1; one step sister Mrs. N. E. Vick of Nashville, Rt. 2.
