Elenor Brown Nelms

Eleanor Brown Nelms, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 5, 2023, surrounded by her daughters.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 11, at 11:00 AM at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will take place at 1:30 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. (The Celebration of Life service will be livestreamed.)

Eleanor was born in Nash County, NC, on May 31, 1938, to the late George Washington Brown, Sr. and Mary Brock Brown. She was a graduate of Benvenue High School. Eleanor retired from Carolina Telephone/Sprint after 35 years of service as a Customer Service Supervisor. She was a long-time member of Arlington Boulevard Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School, and several church committees. She was an inspiration to all of her family and loved by all who knew her.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Nelms; brothers, Muriel Brown and George Brown, Jr.; sisters, Naomi Brown and Mavis Vick.

Eleanor leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Julia Woodard (David) and Becky Flicker (Scott) both of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Andrew Woodard (Savannah) of Alexandria, VA, Matthew Flicker, Justin Woodard, and Michael Flicker all of Raleigh, NC; sister, Joyce Huneycutt of Rocky Mount, NC; many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
