Clara "Jean" Vick Mullen

September 14, 1932 ~ June 29, 2022
ROCKY MOUNT – Clara “Jean” Vick Mullen, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born in Nash County, NC on Wednesday, September 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Vick and Effie Boone Vick. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter Gray Mullen; and her four brothers, Lee, Olvas, Edward and Earl, and her sister, Clarene.
Jean was a wonderful lady and a loyal friend to many. She retired from Nash X-Ray Associates. She was known wherever she worked as a dedicated worker. Known as Honey to Walt, Mama to Kenneth and Greg, and Nunnie to her grandchildren, she was a lady who loved her Lord and her family. She was especially fond of her Sunday School class and her teacher Gail Acree. Mama never sought any recognition and recognized goodness in others. She was a fierce protector of her family and a confidant to her many friends, her lunch buddies, and her “phone mates”. She practiced James 1:19 throughout her life – “Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry”.
Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her “two boys”, Kenneth and his wife, Debbie Mullen of Rocky Mount and Greg and his wife Kedron Mullen of Pendleton, SC; her grandchildren, Shannon Mullen Maloney (Rob), Travis Mullen and Chet Cereno; her great-grandchildren, Madison and Camryn Maloney; and a very special niece, Sharon Eatman.
A Graveside Service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Stamper officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the graveside services at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jean’s memory to Arlington Baptist Church Building Fund, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
