Barbara Jenkins Meadows, age 86, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday afternoon, June 17, 2023.

Barbara was born in Nash County on July 27, 1936, as the fourth child of Tommie and Ruth Watson Jenkins.

She was a loving daughter who grew to become a devoted wife and mother. She raised three sons with strength, integrity and character and a powerful Christian influence.

In her mid-20s, she dove headfirst into the ministry of teaching Sunday school and continued in that special service for the following fifty-two years. She was well read and sharp, enjoying spending time reading her Bible and navigating jigsaw puzzles. Many will remember her smile and kindness as an associate with Belk for thirty-eight years.

Her love and devotion to faith and family was deeply impactful to those of us who loved and knew her.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Earl Meadows, Sr.; brothers, Tommie Jenkins Jr., Bert Jenkins; and sisters, Elizabeth Bottoms and Malda Baines.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Earl Meadows Jr., (Jencie) of Nashville, Gary Meadows (Ethel) of Rocky Mount and Bruce Meadows (Cheryl) of Nashville; grandchildren, Sherry Price (Jeff), Thomas Meadows (Stephanie), Bob Meadows (Carolyn), Jennifer Brigman and Roxanne Richardson; along with twelve great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory a very special friend, Carlton “Sonny” Peele and two special nieces, Lynn Kellam and Malda Harrell, and several other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 6:00 PM at Ridgecrest Worship Center, 1120 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. The family will receive friends and extended family immediately following the service.

The family has specifically requested no flowers. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Ridgecrest Worship Center, designated to “Mission Fund” to assist in furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ.
