Gladys (Sister) Hyman Robinson Lucas was born in Pitt County, North Carolina on Wednesday, May 13, 1925 and moved to Edgecombe County with parents, Gladys Keel Robinson and John Augustus Robinson. She finished school at West Edgecombe High School in 1943. Mr. Feezor, the principal, got her a job with the FBI in Washington, D.C. Gladys boarded a train in Rocky Mount and began working in the Fingerprint Division for 3 years. She came home and married Robert Lee Tisdale. She later married Floyd W. Lucas. Gladys was a Charter Member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour at 18 years of age on a Sunday Night in a packhouse on the current site of the church. Gladys loved reading and listening to the Word of God. She enjoyed going to church and watching TBN and TCT Christian television.
Gladys worked for Schlage Lock Company for 14 ½ years until it left the state. She also worked at Rocky Mount Instruments and Sky-Vue Drive-In Theatre. After retirement from Schlage Lock, she was a caretaker for sick patients in their homes. Gladys was a volunteer at church and Community Hospital for many years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and attending gospel concerts. Gladys also enjoyed traveling with family and friends in the Oakdale Church Joy Group and the Twin County Samaritans Camping Club. She visited many states of the United States of America. Gladys was a Follower of Jesus and an American Patriot her entire life with her favorite colors being red, white and blue.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Floyd W. Lucas and son, Roy Lee Tisdale, son-in-law, Stephen W. Parrish and a great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by brother, W.A. (Billy) Robinson and sisters, Mary Evelyn R. Brantley and Patricia R. Lancaster. She is survived by 2 daughters, Gail Tisdale Parrish and Joan Tisdale Woodruff; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters; Gussie R. Gibson, Lizzie Gray R. Freeman, Pearl R. Whitehurst and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys (Sister) peacefully went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, May 2, 2021. She will be lovingly and forever missed and is resting eternally beside her beloved son at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Dortches, North Carolina.
