Marie Herbert Lewis

ROCKY MOUNT – Marie Herbert Lewis, age 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on July 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William Alfred Herbert and Clara Lucille Dozier Herbert. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William “Billy” Ernest Herbert and Joseph “Boyd” Herbert; and the father of her daughters, Jimmy Lewis.

Marie devoted her life to walking with Jesus and being a long-time member of Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount until her health declined. Her faith was evident not only in her everyday practices but also in the simple aspects of her daily life. Marie took great pride in caring for her family, tending to her garden and flowers, and maintaining a beautiful yard. She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed bird watching, with a particular fondness for blue birds. Despite any health challenges she faced, Marie remained steadfast in her commitment to her faith and her family. Her unwavering devotion to Jesus served as an inspiration to all who knew her.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Joan Lewis Outlaw and husband, Randy, and Susan Lewis Andrews and husband, Ronnie; her grandchildren, Christy Perry and J.R. Perry (Laura); her great-grandchildren, Madison Evernham Lynch (PJ), Daniel Evernham, Josh Evernham, and Emma Morris; her great great-granddaughter, Violet Lynch; her sister-in-law, Linda Herbert; and her four nieces and one nephew.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Pastor Nathan Whitman officiating. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie’s memory to Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
