Lurene D King

RALEIGH– Lurene D. King, age 99, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on April 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank Dozier and Mary Dozier. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon King; her son, Calvin King; and her brother, Bill Doizer.

Lurene was an avid reader. She also enjoyed cross stitching and solving crossword puzzles in her down time. Lurene was a devoted Christian and was a long-time member of Salem Community Baptist Church. She created a multitude of wonderful memories for her family and friends, around her delicious home cooked meals. Lurene was a caregiver for her mother for 39 years. She was a mild-mannered person, who was soft spoken, and always went with the flow. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.

Lurene is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jo Anne King, of Raleigh; her granddaughter, Brooke Rawls and husband, Bobby, of Apex; her great-grandchildren, Larkyn Rawls and London Rawls; her sisters, Vivian “Polly” Pittman, of Whitakers, and Betty Jo Powers, of Clayton; her brother, Daxie Doizer and wife, Alta, of Rocky Mount; her sisters-in-law, Mavis Armstrong, Edna Joyner, and Lois Hudnell; her nieces, Jean Pittman and Kathy Price; and her nephews, Steve Pittman and Greg Powers.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Salem Community Baptist Church, 4502 Swift Creek School Road, Whitakers, NC 27891 with Pastor Caleb Gibson and Pastor Brian Rogers officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of the Church.
