Burlyn Baker “Jiggs” Joyner, 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 30, 2016. He was born in Nash County on December 15, 1942 to the late Silas “Red” Joyner and Evelyn “Ebbie” Baker Joyner. Burlyn retired after 45 years with Canteen Corporation in Rocky Mount. Then he went to work part time with Neal James. Burlyn loved to spend time in his garden, and he also loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, and he was a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother. In addition to his parents, Burlyn was preceded in death by a brother, Dixie Lee Joyner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Frances Brown Joyner; son, Rodney Brian Joyner (Janet); daughters Melissa Joyner, Diana Joyner; brother, Lynn Joyner (Pat); sisters, Dolly Joyner Joyner (Jackson), Evelyn Joyner; brothers in law, Herbert Brown (Sherry), Lee Brown (Joyce); sister in law, Carolyn Joyner; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Pastor Brandon Dees officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service and other times at the home.
