ROCKY MOUNT – Dr. Charles Cecil Johnson, age 83, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Born in Johnston County, NC on April 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Odell Chester Johnson and Bessie Leora Woodard Johnson.

Founder and former President of Christian Bible College, Dr. Cecil founded the college in 1980 and remained active until his retirement in 2013. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dr. Cecil’s mission in life was to spread the Gospel and to teach others the Word of God so they too could spread the Word. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Cecil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judith Gail Eason Johnson; his daughters, Shelley Lynn Johnson Wyatt and husband, Jamison, of Stem and Lea Anne Johnson Shearin of Greenville; his granddaughters, Britney Shearin and Katie O’Hara and husband, Joe, of Wake Forest; his great-grandchildren, A.J. O’Hara and Addison O’Hara; his brother, Bobby Johnson of Norfolk, VA; and his 2 nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Dr. Cecil’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Harry Fowler officiating. A private burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
