Thomas Edward Hunt, Sr.

Thomas Edward Hunt, Sr., age 78 died peacefully at home with his family at his side January 16, 2017. He was born October 25, 1938 in Wilson County and grew up in Elm City, graduating in 1956 from Elm City High School. He was the son of the late James Charles Hunt and Della Williams Hunt and preceded in death by his brother Charles Milton Hunt “Buddy” of St. Petersburg, Fla. Tommy, as he was known all his life, became a tobacconist and for the next 43 years worked for several companies, China America, Thorpe & Ricks and lastly 31 years with Hail & Cotton International out of Springfield, Tennessee; his second home. Loved and respected by his co-workers all those years, too numerous to name, but you know who you are, he loved you all.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Nancy Tilghman Hunt of the home; his children, Elizabeth Mayo Bachmann (Paul) of Lynchburg, Va., Thomas Edward Hunt, Jr. “Tommy” (Michele), Nancy Lynn Vick (Randy) of Rocky Mount and Bradford Tilghman Hunt of New York City. He was known as Papa & Grandpa to Kaitlyn, Hannah, Josiah and Joel Bachmann, Mitchell, Thomas and Olivia Vick, Turner and Emma Hunt and Adam and Shane Renner; sister, Ruth Brantley of Rocky Mount and brother, Norris of Hampton, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

His family is so thankful to Dr. David Browder and his staff for their care over the last years and to Community Homecare and Hospice over the last two months. Words cannot fully express the love, compassion and care they gave Tommy and his wife Nancy, to the end. Thank you very much.

Entombment will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in the Mausoleum. Visitation will follow service.
