James Wallie Hughes Jr.

James Willie Hughes, Jr. passed away May 16, 2024. He was born March 6, 1946 to the late James Willie Hughes, Sr. and Doris Kight Hughes. James served in the Vietnam War and retired from the City of Rocky Mount after 22 years of service. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, JoAnn Hughes.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Hampton; daughter, Jessica MacGregor and fiancé Shan Pierce; brothers, Robert Hughes and wife Kathy, and Bo Hughes and wife Marlene; sisters, Star Merritt, Peenie McCance, and Patty Pate and husband Buddy; grandchild, James MacGregor; special friend, Vickie May; aunt, Marie Berry; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hughes loved his family and loved shooting pool.

A funeral service will be on Friday, May 24, at 2 pm. at the Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Moss officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
