Carl M. “Dick” Howell, age 90, passed away at his home early Saturday morning, September 3, 2022. He was born in Nash County August 4, 1932 to Lonnie H. and Eva E. Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lonnie Henry Howell, Jr., Speight Howell, Earl Edmondson Howell, Sr., Leslie “PeeWee” Howell, and Robert Howell; and sisters, Patsy Faye Howell, Lois Turlington, and Joyce Gray Brantley.

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Dick was a member of the RMFD. He later joined Seaboard Coastline and CSX Railroad as a Carman Inspector and retired following a dedicated career of thirty years. With his devoted wife, Jean, he was a long-time member in service to his Lord at Rocky Mount Christian Church where they loved being a part of the body of Christ together.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-four years, Jean S. Howell; sister, Mary Eva Aycock of Rocky Mount; nephews, Robert Howell and Eddie Howell; nieces, Janie Howell, Ruthie Vandiford, Debbie Winstead Hill, Teresa Hogshire, and Faye Howell Evans, as well as other nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by a special friend, Sarah Mills; along with a host of family friends and other extended relatives.

A heartfelt acknowledgement of appreciation is extended to the friends and members of Community Hospice and Action Staffing, Paula Stiles, Del Manning, Iris Taylor, and Sue Jackson. Their love and care has truly made a difference in our lives.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with the Reverend John Bonk officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
