William “Bill” Higson, age 73, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on September 9, 1945, he was the son of the late Booth Higson and Mary Devane Higson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lanier Higson; and son, Chadwick Higson.
Bill was a proud Vietnam veteran where he served in the United States Airforce. He was the instrumental voice in leading the push to have a Vietnam Memorial constructed specifically to recognize and honor other veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange, a monument which is located in the Rocky Mount Vietnam Veterans Park across from City Lake. He retired from Consolidated Diesel after many dedicated years of service. Bill was a talented craftsman and loved woodworking. He was a loving husband, father, and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Brandon Higson (Fabian) of Elm City; and daughter, Ashley Higson of Elm City. He is also survived by a sister, Patsy Bulluck (Mickey) of Battleboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Matt Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
