Barbara Hedrick

SUFFOLK, VA – Barbara Jean Hedrick, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023. Born in Pitt County, NC on March 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late James William Riggs and Lillian Bell Gaskins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Willard Francis Hedrick; her brothers, Charles Riggs, Earl Riggs, and James Riggs; and her sisters, Ruth Mills, Betty Crunk, Mildred Haddock, and Nell Michaels.

Barbara was a longtime member of Parkwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed the beauty in caring for her flowers, the same care she gave to her family through the years. Barbara made a difference in the life of everyone who knew her, and she leaves behind a tremendous legacy of life, love, and laughter.

Barbara is survived by her son, Steven Hedrick and wife, Nicki, of Rocky Mount; her daughters, Tara Daniels and husband David, of Rocky Mount, Donna Proctor and husband, Button, of Suffolk, VA, and Brenda Goodman and husband, Dave, of West Jefferson; her grandchildren, Lisa, Chris, Stephanie, Brandon, Darrick, Cole, Vanessa, and Alyson; and her great-grandchildren, Christa, Rachel, Katie, Hunter, Dylan, Hailey, Isabel, Brody, Harker, and Hayden.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor John Scott officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
