Obituary
Rocky Mount –

Sharon Smith Griffin, age 65, passed away Friday morning, August 11, 2023 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was born on June 10, 1958 in Wayne County to Jessie and Betty Watkins Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Harrell.

She is survived by her best friend and husband, Glen Griffin; son, Cameron Griffin (Elizabeth) of Rocky Mount; sister, Robin Baker and husband, Gary; and brother, Danny Smith and wife, Julie.

Sharon was a devoted Christian and knew Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was also a loving wife, mother, sister, and dear friend who would always share a big hug and encouraging smile when she saw you. Her nurturing heart meant she enjoyed caring and doing for family and friends, especially baking cakes and planning birthday celebrations. As a school cafeteria manager often encountering students who were short on funds, Sharon gladly made up the difference and ensured a good lunch was attainable to those in need.

Sharon loved some of the simpler things in life. She had a special appreciation for 70s era music and watching the deer and hummingbirds that frequented her feeders. She especially enjoyed skating at Sky-Vue Skateland, reminiscing of weekends and good times spent rolling, laughing, and being with Glen. As Sharon’s health declined, Glen became passionate about caring for her in every way possible. Sky-Vue became a wonderful place of solace as Sharon easily slipped back in time and connected with the cherished memories made there with Glen from their courtship and earlier years. He was completely devoted to helping her relive those memories and providing every comfort and need she had.

Sharon’s life will be remembered with a special service Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4544 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends prior, beginning at 10:00am, and other times at the home.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and special thanks to Sharon’s caregivers, Evelyn Braswell and June Arnold.
