November 21, 1930 ~ December 6, 2021

Rocky Mount beloved dentist, Dr. Julian Horace Fisher, joined the heavenly realms on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021. He was 91 years old. Although he is truly missed by friends and family, Dr. Fisher left behind many wonderful memories and stories bringing giggles and grins to cherish for the years ahead.

Born Nov. 21, 1930 in Dortches, he grew up in the Red Oak and Dortches communities outside Rocky Mount. He graduated from the Red Oak Highschool in1949, and was a US Army Dental Assistant at Fort Sam Houston in Texas from 1952-1954. Afterwards he graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry in 1958 with honors.

Over the years, Dr. Fisher was an active member in the Dortches Ruritan Club; the Rocky Mount Jaycees; the Rocky Mount Lions Club; and the Rocky Mount First Christian Church serving others in many community projects. At the First Christian Church, he actively served as a Deacon, Elder Emeritus, and Sunday School teacher. He also enjoyed actively participating in the Christian Mens Fellowship, leading the Church Calendar project, and supporting numerous fundraising activities, youth group hayrides, and a small youth basketball practice.

Dr. Fisher loved dentistry, math, science, nature, and people. Having grown up on a farm, agriculture and nature were close to his heart. He raised pigs with his two brothers, Lee and Jay Fisher, and continued to enjoy visiting his cousin, Sullivan Fisher and brother in law, Ransom Journigan. After his brothers passed away, if he wasn’t raising cows, being in nature, or learning something new, he was busy with a project.

His varied experiences helping others provided a repertoire of stories and jokes that he enjoyed telling as much as learning about the lives of others. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan during football and basketball seasons. His analytical mind continued to flourish in his later years as he became a Checkers Champion and master of the triangle peg game.

He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Lou Rowe Fisher, his two older brothers (Lee and Jay Fisher) and older sister (Nan Shearin). He is survived by his daughter, Juliana Fisher of Durham, his son, Julian H. Fisher Jr of San Francisco, his younger sister, Dolores Journigan of Aventon, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Rocky Mount First Christian Church located at 1101 West Haven Blvd, with a reception to follow. Condolences may be shared at CremationSocietyNC.com
