ROCKY MOUNT – Lee Edwards, age 89, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. Born in Goldsboro, NC on August 26, 1928, he was the son of the late LR Edwards and Hattie Massey Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Edwards; and son-in-law, Wilson Lane.

Lee was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. During these years he held several positions but truly enjoyed his days as a rural route carrier. He coached Little League Baseball for West Haven Presbyterian Church for several seasons. He was active in many sports such as softball, bowling, and in his later years participated in senior athletics. His true passion was for the game of golf. He was a member of Birchwood Country Club in Nashville for many years and became quite an accomplished golfer. He participated in and won many golf tournaments during his playing days. He also enjoyed and organized many out of town golf outings over the years. He loved to swing a golf club and feel the sunshine on his face. After a round of golf he and his buddies would finish up the day with a game of Gin before heading home. He enjoyed working in his yard and continued to do so until just recently as his health declined. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by many.

Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 65 years, Hilda Land Edwards; son, Brian Edwards; and daughters, Phyllis Lane of Nashville, and Carol Solana and husband, Alan, of Wilmington. He is also survived by grandchildren, Paul Phillips and wife, Jessie, of Rocky Mount, Nicholas Petteway of Morehead City, Allison Edwards of Nashville, and Brandon Edwards of Palmyra, VA; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Phillips and Tristan Phillips.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum on the Hill. A visitation with the family will follow the service.
