ROCKY MOUNT – Lewis “Clayton” Edmondson, Sr., age 77, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022. Born in Martin County, NC on August 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Jesse Vernon Edmondson and Irma Edmondson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Hale Edmondson; his baby girl; and his sister, Joyce Earle Turner.

Clayton served in the US Army where he trained Rangers following bootcamp. He lived in Williamston then moved to Scotland Neck where he was employed at Fulflex. Clayton later moved to Rocky Mount and was employed by Sears, first as a road technician and later as a service manager. He worked for Wildwood Trace Apartments as Maintenance Manager. He loved growing his garden and giving vegetables to all his friends and neighbors. Clayton loved spending time with his grandson. Two of his best friends were his two little dogs, Daisy and Lorelei. He would want to mention his wonderful neighbors, Cindy and Scott Williams and Don Schwahn and daughter, Cindy Ellis. He had many friends at the Stock Yard where he had a booth for many years.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carolyn “Faye” Edmondson; his son, Lewis Clayton “Clay” Edmondson, II and wife, Sheila; his stepdaughter, Gina Hicks Angel; his grandson, Aaron Angel; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Clayton’s life will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Deacon Marvin Stallings officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Clayton’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
