Wilbur "W.C" Carroll Cone

BAYBORO – Wilbur Carroll “W.C.” Cone, age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Born in Wilson County, NC on February 1, 1945, he was the son of the late Charlie Wilbur Cone and Ruby Finch Cone. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Anne Gurganus Cone; brother, Danny Marshall Cone; his sisters, Patricia “Pat” Elaine Cone Morris and Judy Raye Cone Staton; and his grandson, Michael Hackney.
W.C. owned and operated Prime Star Industrial Electric in Wilson, NC for over 20 years until his retirement. Prior to moving to Bayboro where he attended Bayboro Baptist Church, he was a member of Living Faith Fellowship Church and attended Englewood Baptist Church. W.C. enjoyed the outdoors whether it was fishing or hunting, and he especially enjoyed spending time at his home in Bay River where he would spend countless hours gazing out over the water from his rocking chair. In addition, he was an admirer of classic cars, traveling with family and friends especially on cruises, watching old western movies, swapping stories with friends during a round of golf, and working his magic at the blackjack tables. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many, W.C. will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
W.C. is survived by his wife, Amerlice Coley Cone; his daughters, Beth Candler and husband, Danny, Kimberly Hackney and husband, Chris, and Wendy Cone and husband, Curt; his step-son, Tim Coley and wife, Rebecca; his grandchildren, Brandon Hackney, Ariel and Landon Langley, Adrienne Castevens, Melissa Howard, and Cheyanne Lea; his great grandchildren, Tristen Hackney, Jackson and Ethan Troutman, Colin and Avery Howard, and Neriah Lea; his sister, Jackie Cone Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate W.C.’s life will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Scott Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
